How To Undertake Oriental Rug Cleaning

By Christa Jarvis

These exotic mats need a lot of care especially when it comes to washing them. The good thing with these rugs is that they add a touch of beauty to the house whenever they are placed. Their fabric is sophisticated and unique that is why they give a beautiful touch to the house. In most cases they are placed in living rooms. In addition, most of them are imported from the Middle East countries. Considering how costly they are, undertaking oriental rug cleaning is vital.

Pay attention to stains on the mat. This is through clearing any stain that may occur. This saves one much heading in clearing the mat in future. It also helps one avoid permanent damage on this mat as well as future costly expenses of finding a professional mat washer. Clear them on a regular basis to avoid damage by dust and dirt.

Make sure that when you use clean up equipment, such as vacuum cleaners, you ensure that both sides are cleaned. If you clean one side only, there is a high likelihood that the dirt will still remain trapped on the other side. You can knock off the dirt using your hand with soft strokes. This way, the dirt will be brought to the top. From there, you can proceed to vacuuming it.

Use recommended chemicals in washing the carpet. Vinegar and cold water are usually recommended for stubborn stains in the end. Most mats are made of soft fabrics and natural dyes. This requires one to use soft chemicals in order to avoid discolouring the carpet. Vinegar is recommended for such mats, since it provides a natural clean leaving the carpet more vibrant and well preserved fabric.

When dealing with a given stain, mix the chemicals in their required ratios. Proceed to putting the concoction in a spray bottle. Brush off the stain using a soft brush to avoid pulling off fur on it. Light sprays should be done evenly, to avoid dampening that mat. Leave it to dry after removing the stain. Avoid drying it under direct sunlight to avoid burning the fur.

One can sponge the already cleaned areas using clean water to finish. However, an absorbent towel can be used instead of a sponge. One can place a dry towel on the floor to prevent dampening of your mat. Make sure that all the parts of your mat are dry. This involves both the back and front sides.

When cleaning the fringes, one can employ the same procedures. However, little vinegar should be used for white mats. If too much vinegar is used, they might turn brown. You can use a fan to dry up the excess vinegar.

An alternative to the fan drying in Corona Del Mar CA is the spreading of the mat on the floor. However, ensure that it is not wet to be used on all hard floors. This is to avoid the growth of mold and mildew on the mat hence preventing rotting. Do not hang the mat to drip, since it leads to color runs on that mat.
