Where To Find Local Garage Sales

By Linda Ruiz

Garage sales are a good place to pick up many things that might be a good addition to your own home decor. They often have treasures you have not been able to buy anywhere else and some of them have items bought overseas and available at a real bargain. The only issue is how to find local garage sales for you to visit.

Newspapers have been a traditional way to locate these events. The sections that some have is closely associated with the personal ads and home services or thrifty ads. Many of the weekly or grocery store publications will also have these listed and they have been a main stay of sale advertisements for a long time.

Most of the newspapers or weekly ad sheets will have a very small, often free, price so there can be a lot of information there. Some of these will list some of the main things the home owner will place out for sale. Sometimes there are two and more families getting together for a massive sale. They may also list a website for a larger grouping of these ads.

An Internet search for these sales can accomplish the same thing as searches for anything else you have done. If you combine the city you live in after a plus sign, it will narrow the search down to areas right around you. Most of the material that is placed on the Internet will come up in this unless it is on private, secured pages.

Using the Internet and search engines, you can find many of the blogs or forums, read chat rooms, and find people who talk about yard or garage sales. They will be discussing things such as where they are and when to get there for the best items. A lot of the people posting on these sites will have their eyes out for additional ones. Many oi these individuals will be examining many of them and report back what type of items can be found at certain ones.

Twitter is a tool that is simply made for this type of activity. People attending sales of this type will often tweet what they are doing and seeing. If you can follow a few of these people, in your local area, you will have an endless supply of information for the day. You can ask questions in the forums about who does this type of tweeting or go through the directory on Twitter for these.

It used to be that just traveling around on some of the back streets, in your city, would do the trick. You drive down an avenue and look at what is placed out front. You have the option to stop and take a quick look and then move down the road. This can still be an interesting way of spending a day.

The methods used to find that yard sale does not matter. What matters is finding one and getting stuff you want. Many times you uncover things that you need or simply used to have and need again. Some have changed their ideas about what they need when they see things. Still others have embarked on collections based on a few items they had not seen before.
