Drapery Cleaning Orange County Helps Keep Your Home Clean

By Sharron Cantu

Debris in your home create a buildup of allergens on your drapes. You should regularly utilize drapery cleaning Orange County to prevent too many irritants from floating around your house. Even if you aren't constantly touching or moving the drapes, they can collect all sorts of odors, smoke, or dust.

You should give your curtains a deep clean every quarter of the year. However, it's best that you add onto this and weekly give them a little attention as well. There are several methods in which to do both of these.

For a quick clean, close your curtains and carefully shake off any debris. Afterwards, you can use a feather or static cling duster to clean off remaining debris, wiping top to bottom. The small folds and decorative trim on drapes often accumulate a lot of debris, and may not come off with just a shake. If you feel the debris is too stubborn for both of these methods, you can use a vacuum hose with a soft brush add-on to run down the drapes.

For seasonal cleaning, make sure you check your drapes' care tags. If the curtains are washable, put it in a washing machine on the delicate cold water setting. Before you do so, also examine whether any area of the drapes are damaged. Even areas that seem lighter yet strong enough might indicate the curtains have sun damage, and could easily fall apart in your machine. Once the drapes are washed, make sure to dry them on a cool and delicate setting.

Make sure the dry cleaner you bring your drapes to is reputable. When asked, they should be able to comfortably tell you about the cleaning process and how often they clean drapes and curtains. Regardless of the price of dry cleaning, you should always clean your drapes at least four times a year.

If your weekly cleaning isn't producing the results you want even between seasonal cleaning, your drapes may need to go through a refreshment process. This is easily done by putting them through the gentle cycle in your dryer machine. You can further freshen them up with a fabric refresher after you've place them back up.

If you experience a fire inside your home, your drapes can get extremely dirty even if the fire didn't reach them. If you attempt to clean them yourself, first vacuum off any soot that was left on the drapes. However, the best way to restore your curtains is to hire a professional. These drapes will need proper equipment and chemicals to clean them without causing any damage. Additionally, they may need to be put through ozone treatment if the smoke has left a lot of odors on them.

If the natural disaster your drapes go through is a flood, the best way to restore them is to first presoak them in cold water and all-fabric bleach. This is the best way to disinfect the curtains. As long as the curtains are machine washable, take them out of the presoak and wash them on a warm cycle in your machine. Add some detergent as well, and make sure the cycle uses the maximum amount of water.
